AI policy
Anawords uses AI tools, including Claude by Anthropic, to help with research and first drafts.
What AI does
- Finds official sources and coverage of a story.
- Suggests a first draft in plain language.
- Checks drafted sentences against the saved sources.
What a human does
- Chooses which stories to cover.
- Sets the rules every story must meet: research note first, every fact sourced and labelled.
- Approves the story before it is published, and approves every update.
- Checks facts line by line where the story says "Fact-checked by".
What AI never does
- Publish on its own.
- Invent numbers, quotes or sources.
- Create fake photos of real people or events.
Images
Most featured images are Anawords graphics built from the confirmed facts in the story. If we ever use an AI-generated image, it is labelled "AI-generated".
When AI checks the sources
Some stories are source-checked by our AI tools, sentence by sentence, and then approved for publication by the editor without a separate line-by-line human check. Those stories say so on the page: they show "Source-checked by AI" and "Approved by" instead of "Fact-checked by". We never label an AI check as a human one.
