Editorial and fact-check policy

Accuracy

We check facts against primary sources first. If we cannot find a source, we do not publish the fact.

Attribution

Claims are always attributed: we write who says it. Company benchmark results are labelled as company claims until independently checked.

Right of reply

People and companies named in a story can send their side. We publish relevant replies with the time we received them.

Corrections

When we get something wrong, we fix it on the same page, say what changed, and list it in our corrections log.

Conflicts of interest

We do not accept payment for coverage. Any affiliate link is marked and does not change our reporting.

Fair to everyone

We write in neutral, plain words. We do not use loaded words such as "slams", "destroys" or "scam" unless we are quoting someone, and then we say who said it. We report what a company or person did or said, not what we think of them. When a story affects a company, we say whether it has confirmed or commented. Our publishing tool runs a tone check before every story goes live.

Research first

Every story has a research note, published on our Research desk before the story goes live. It lists every source we read, which ones we used and why, and what we could not verify.
