Research note
Research note: IndiaAI Mission GPU providers may be allowed to sell compute to global clients, Business Standard reports
How we checked a report that IndiaAI Mission GPU providers may be allowed to sell compute to global customers.
What we set out to check
Whether the government has decided to let IndiaAI Mission GPU providers sell compute to customers outside India, and what figures are reported.
What we found
- Business Standard reports, citing unnamed officials, that the government is likely to encourage this.
- NewsBytes carries the same story in summary form and adds no new sourcing.
- We found no MeitY or PIB statement on the change.
Numbers that differ
NewsBytes describes 10,000 GPUs being added over five years. Business Standard says the latest round will onboard 10,000 GPUs and that the government will buy five years of GPU time. We use Business Standard's wording. Business Standard also lists two L1 rates (₹168 and ₹57) for AMD MI300X or Intel Gaudi 2 without making clear which is which, so we left them out.
Labels we chose and why
- Unconfirmed for all reported facts, because both outlets rest on one Business Standard report with unnamed officials.
- Unknown for whether MeitY will formally approve the change.
What we could not verify
- Any official government statement.
- Whether overseas sales would reduce compute available to Indian users.
What we searched
- IndiaAI Mission GPU providers global clients
- IndiaAI Mission GPU bidders sell compute overseas
