Research note
Research note: Nvidia’s share of China’s AI chip market fell to 34% in the first half of 2026 as Huawei gained, IDC data shows
How we reported IDC’s China AI chip figures when we could only see them through one Reuters report, and why we avoided a direct year-on-year share comparison.
What we set out to check
Nvidia’s and Huawei’s shares and shipments in China, the other vendors, and the trend.
What we found
- One Reuters report gives the first-half 2026 IDC figures. We could not open the IDC report itself.
- An April Reuters report gives IDC’s full-year 2025 figures.
Numbers that differ
The April report says Nvidia had about 55% for 2025; the new report says 34% for the first half of 2026. These are different periods and possibly different definitions, so we did not write that the share “fell from 55% to 34%”.
Labels we chose and why
- Unconfirmed for all IDC figures, because they come to us through one news report rather than IDC directly.
What we could not verify
- The IDC report itself.
- Which Nvidia chips are included in its count.
What we searched
- IDC Nvidia China AI chip share Huawei first half 2026
- Nvidia China AI accelerator shipments 678,000
- IDC China AI accelerator 2025 Nvidia 55%
