Research note
Research note: Nvidia is in early talks to buy or invest more in Reflection AI, the Financial Times reports
How we handled a single-source deal report, what Nvidia has already invested in Reflection, and what is known about the Beam model.
What we set out to check
Whether the deal talks are confirmed, what options were reported, and what is already known about Nvidia’s stake and Reflection’s model.
What we found
- All coverage traces back to one Financial Times report citing unnamed people.
- Neither company has commented.
- Nvidia’s $800 million investment and the Beam release appear in two independent outlets.
Numbers that differ
AI Business also refers to “a trillion tokens” in one place and 23.8 trillion in another. We use the 23.8 trillion figure it attributes to Reflection.
Labels we chose and why
- Unconfirmed for the talks: many outlets repeat them, but they all rely on the same FT report, so we count it as one source.
- Reported for the investment and Beam, which two outlets carry.
What we could not verify
- The FT article itself, which is paywalled.
- Beam’s licence and benchmark results.
What we searched
- Nvidia Reflection AI talks acquire Financial Times
- Reflection AI Beam open-weight 501 billion
- Nvidia Reflection AI $800 million investment
