Research note
Research note: Microsoft’s Satya Nadella says AI needs an “emergency brake” that people control
How we reported Satya Nadella’s post when we could not open the post itself, and why the quotes are labelled Unconfirmed.
What we set out to check
What Nadella wrote, where and when, and what it responds to.
What we found
- TechCrunch quotes the post and lists Nadella’s proposals.
- We could not open the X post itself, and we could not find a second outlet’s report.
- Anthropic’s disclosure the day before is a confirmed piece of context.
Numbers that differ
None. One search result described a September Microsoft code of conduct; it is a separate event and we did not mix it in.
Labels we chose and why
- Unconfirmed for the quotes and proposals, because only one outlet reported them and we could not see the original post. We say this in the story.
- Confirmed for the Anthropic context.
What we could not verify
- The exact wording of the X post.
- Whether Microsoft will act on these principles.
We will update the labels if we can check the post or a second report.
What we searched
- Satya Nadella AI emergency brake
- Nadella trust architecture nested black boxes
