Research note
Research note: World Bank’s AI report, launched in New Delhi, says developing countries should adopt and adapt AI first
How we confirmed the date of the New Delhi launch, what the World Bank report actually says, and which India figures came from speakers at the event.
What we set out to check
When and where the report was launched, what the World Bank’s report says, and which numbers came from the report versus from speakers.
What we found
- DD India dates its report 8 October and says the remarks were made on Thursday, which was 8 October.
- The World Bank’s page sets out the report’s main messages; its press release is dated 4 August 2026.
Numbers that differ
One report was published on 9 October and some readers took that as the launch date. We follow DD India’s same-day report: 8 October. This matches our earlier story, where the minister spoke at this event.
Labels we chose and why
- Confirmed for what the World Bank’s own page says.
- Reported for what speakers said at the event, carried by two outlets.
What we could not verify
- The studies behind the India figures, such as the Baramati yields.
What we searched
- World Development Report 2026 artificial intelligence launch New Delhi
- worldbank.org World Development Report 2026 Promise of AI
